Moonah is a town near Hobart. The land was originally given to free settlers along the banks of the New Town Rivulet. These areas eventually became known as the suburbs of New Town and South Glenorchy which was later changed to Moonah.

Today, it is one of the main shopping places in outer Hobart. It is home to several nice shops, bakerys and other businesses and is one of the main shopping areas in Glenorchy along with Glenorchy and Claremont. It is also home to Moonah Arts Centre along with Putters Mini Golf and the Moonah Bowling Alley providing a wealth of entertainment in the area.

As of 2001 the official population of Moonah was 5150 and 3883 in West Moonah making a total of 9033.
